I was given a self-portrait assignment in my video class and this is what I ended up creating. There are many things that I wish were different about it. But hey, I am learning. It was done in a stop-motion style with just me, a camera, and a lot of chalk.

I had another assignment to “remix” a film that my professor provided. It was a video about technology that was made in the 60’s. We could only use the video and audio from the file that she provided. I took it in the abstract direction.

the work speaks for itself. it’s _very_ well made. my words would just belabor the quality of the work. but seeing this video raises an issue.
she’s good. i know she’s good. she’s good at everything she does. but then how do i explain my expecations being exceeded _again_! as if i forgot, yeh right ;). I think I’ve figured it out. I think of her as “the best”, so by definition, she can not do better. but she can, so the situation arises where the quality of my concept of kristin is always lagging in accuracy with regards to the actual kristin. as they say, “you can’t be the best at everything you do”. her existence very well might challenge that principle. she’s somehow able to get better at something before a single attempt.
many people might want to excuse it all as talent, born with this remarkable ability, she can just do it. perhaps, but she also works very hard for it, managing the details, an endless cycle from engineer to analyst until it’s complete, she refines it. it’s not magic, it’s skill, and it’s hers.
