But seriously, I have been at school. I finished last semester with an overall B average. It isn’t great, but its acceptable. This semester I am taking 5 classes that are all interesting but hard work. If everything goes as planned, I will have my BA in December.
For my video class I have to keep a blog. If you want to check it out… go here.
I am so inspired. Today I received my copy of Process Recess 1 in the mail. It is a collection of work by James Jean, my favorite artist. It was printed in 2005 and sold out immediately. The only copies that I could find online were going for over $75.00. Last week, on a whim, I looked on amazon to see what they were going for. There was only 1 for sale, for $12.00 — its mine. I didn’t even bother to see if it was the first printing. It wasn’t until I actually openned the package to see that I was lucky enough to have one of the original first printings. It goes great with my Process Recess 2.
“My art serves as a release of my creative and intellectual tensions.I use my work to organize my emotion, thoughts, and inspirations. My preference in media ranges from pencil to paint, but my pallet of vibrant hues and high contrast runs through all of my pieces. It is important to me that my images grab attention and are not lost in a glance.I pull inspiration from other artist’s work and find my style constantly stretching and molding to what is most aesthetically pleasing to me at the time.I would say that my subject matter is as the weather – cycling through highs and lows, only to repeat itself. My desire is to create a body of work that defines me and inspires others.” -Kristin Larsen 11.1.07
I drew the nude in class, approx 45min. The assigment was to take the drawing home and add a background. She was sitting in a very comfortable and slouching pose, so I thought natural elements in the background felt appropriate. I also wanted to add texture to an otherwise smooth drawing.
There has been an ongoing ant problem in my apartment. In the recent weeks, the ants have migrated to my desk. In their search for food they managed to find their way into my monitor. There are three ants trapped in my monitor. One died after a day inside. Now the other two are trying to rescue that ant and are carrying him around my screen. Its the weirdest thing.
I was given a self-portrait assignment in my video class and this is what I ended up creating. There are many things that I wish were different about it. But hey, I am learning. It was done in a stop-motion style with just me, a camera, and a lot of chalk.
I had another assignment to “remix” a film that my professor provided. It was a video about technology that was made in the 60’s. We could only use the video and audio from the file that she provided. I took it in the abstract direction.
I have added the beginning of the beetles and a layer of drips. I have a pretty good idea of where I am going to go with it, but it is always changing. There will definitely be more line work and probably more black added later.
This is the beginning stage of three paintings that I am working on. I am trying to get a lot of texture and interest with the background because the foreground image will be mostly spot colors. My current pallet is orange, green, and yellow.
I finally got around to updating the site — sort of. Hopefully this blog thing will work out a little better than the old site. For the time being, you can view some of my work on deviant art. I will get new stuff posted soon.
I would like to thank Todd Marrone for helping me out with getting this blog started.
